2012 Olympics Women's artistic Gymnastics qualifications, Completeness of NBC broadcast overall tally.
AKA, Scorecard of NBC's broadcast.
A sidetrack from, Recording, tallying, and presentation of multiple simultaneous events.

If an Athlete has been chosen by the IOC for admittance into the Olympics Qualifications round (*2), they are technically referred to as an Olympian, even if they do not "Advance" or get a medal. I at least consider it an insult if they make it that far and do not get recognition for doing so. At least 21 Women Gymnastic Olympians did not get any recognition from the global broadcast of the 2012 Olympics provided by NBC.

NBC has two vids about 3 hours long for four subdivisions, and one vid about 1.5 hours long for the fifth subdivision. Thats over 7.5 hours of video that only show less then 44% of the total 6.65 hours of tournament action.

This has me pondering the question, So what is the best way to broadcast an event like this that includes every single complete routine performed by four groups of athletes competing simultaneously? Surly 6.65 hours of tournament action can fit in 7.5 hours of video.

NBC never provided a broadcast of the 2012 Olympics Men's Artistic Gymnastics Qualifications event.

As for after the show, watch on-line events. There was an excellent example of how this could have been done much better. During the 2008 Olympics, There was a set of four videos for a single event, that did cover the entire list of all routines performed during that single event. Women's (apparatus) Finals. They had a crew at each apparatus, and each video showed all the routines on that one apparatus from beginning to end of that one event. A total of four vids that showed the entire event and did not omit anything. Unfortunately, that was not done for the rest of the events, and even that Olympics was not covered as completely as I would have liked it to be.

To be rather blunt and honest, If this was the list of testing conducted and results published from a laboratory documenting a scientific research project. That Laboratory would be shut down, Every thing released from that laboratory would be classified as unusable incomplete source data, and everyone working at that laboratory would probably never get access to a single piece of scientific equipment ever again. Especially when considering that quite often threw the broadcast the commentators refer to former events in former competitions, that are never shown, not even in the broadcast of the former competitions mentioned in the broadcast.

This is a prime example of how not to perform testing, record data, and provide accurate complete references when doing R&D.

Now that I have dug into this more then I originally wanted or cared to, I'm moving on to the rest of what I was originally thinking about. Recording, tallying, and presentation of multiple simultaneous events, in the laboratory.

*1
After going back to listen to find out if the commentators caught the athlete mix up on the vid, and explained why they announced one athlete and didn't show a routine or score, I'm besides myself.

They did explain the salute-touch-and-salute the one athlete ritually dose for a 0.000 score on the one apparatus, there was never a score displayed for those of us that turn off the incessant babbling. They went out of there way to show that at the expense of showing other routines.

Also the commentators are talking about how the tumbling passes of "Elsabeth Black" are in sync with the performance of the athlete being shown, despite the scoreboard in view on the floor clearly indicating Dominique Pegg is on the apparatus performing her routine. It was not just a back-room mess up with selecting the wrong vid to playback during rotation between rounds with the wrong "Broadcast Graphics Overlay". This mistaken athlete identity appears to only have happened once, as I then went back a third time to verify that the "Bib number" matched the athlete being shown and name and score provided in the "Broadcast Graphics Overlay". Still, I was given a score without being shown the correct routine, and shown a routine without a score because of the mix up. To add insult to injury, later on they did show the correct Vault routine for Elsabeth Black, on live broadcast.

*2
The IOC selects a collection of athletes from each IOC recognized country or other, to come to a regional "Olympics Test Event". The IOC then select the highest scoring athletes of the "Olympics Test Event" that meat a minimum score and pass Anti-Doping tests, to be allowed admission into the Olympics opening Qualifications round as Olympians. (This is a somewhat simpleton view of the Olympic admission mess, there is more to it then just being selected by the IOC and getting a minimum score at an "Olympics Test Event".)

As a gray aria example, I don't know if Luiza Galiulina (UZB) is still called an Olympian, as she failed an Anti-Doping test after being  selected for the Olympics opening Qualifications round, ultimately being "provisional suspended" from the 2012 Olympics. She was not allowed onto the floor to compete alongside other members of Mixed Group 7, and I don't know to what extent her "status" was removed. I don't know if she has been banned from ever going to another "Olympics Test", or if this effected her standing from the 2008 Olympics.
